The Company Profile

Doug Kwok is a metalsmith artist that creates some unusual and very interesting items from recycled, new and fully hand crafted parts.

In fact many of the components used in his art are hand crafted, hammer forged and hand polished. He also creates fine art jewelery.

The Brief

To create a website that is unique and complements the type of art that he creates.

Has to be able to manage his own content, products, contacts list, biography and include a blog / news manager.

The beauty about this Brief is that Doug did not restrict us in anyway. He gave us the ability to create any style using any layout we wanted. This was great and a challenge because we were not restricted by any specific requirements, but challenging because we also had no starting point.

As we have also taken most of the photographs of Dougs creations that gave us the ability to examine the textures he uses in his art, so that we can replicate that for the website.

This helped match his website to mimick his artwork and look totally unique.

The Design Details

Designing this website provided us the freedom to create a theme and a layout that matched and complemented the style of art it was to showcase. This is the type of website that definitely represents Custom Design.

This website allows Doug to manage all the content. Each product displayed automatically includes a photo gallery and will display any photos that have been uploaded for this product. Each photo can be accompanied by an extended description. This makes the product page much more relevant as it then provides information about the actual picture being viewed.

Other features include a Links / Information page, News Articles and Archival and a Contact / Bio page. All of which include their own manager, so that the content can be changed at any time.

Due to the specific graphical layout it was decided to design this website around a fixed width format..
